Continuous Improvement (CI) is the introduction of any ideas, methods or processes that improve the overall efficiency and quality of healthcare and research. CI does not always have to be a major change in how you or your team works; and can range from introducing an entirely new IT system to moving a stack of forms closer on a table for speedier access.
A lot of changes and new initiatives within the NHS and NIHR are actually CI projects, they are sometimes just not recognised as one. However, if these projects had followed the CI framework and used some CI tools – then they may have been introduced even more efficiently.
So if you are introducing a change, or identify any areas in your work that you think can be improved then you too can apply some of the CI methods and tools described here.
