A small team of three, Greg, Anna, and Beth, look after the information and data for research in North West London. They work closely with each of the Trusts and the local NIHR CRN team in North West London to support research projects with set up, data and information. In addition, the BI team will collaborate across other networks, and with the coordinating centre.
Your Role and Data
Data is central to the existence of the NIHR and we all have a role to play in ensuring the accurate and timely upload of data to the systems used to record and extract data. These are the local portfolio management system (LPMS), normally Edge or Documas in North West London; and the Central Portfolio Management System (CPMS), nationally.
Any training you receive should give you the confidence to enter, or confirm research data into the local system, so that data can be transferred to the central system and used for tracking against national objectives.
How can the BI team support you?
The NWL Business Intelligence team can support colleagues and researchers across both the national (CPMS) and local (LPMS / Edge / Documas) data systems. Accurate data for research projects, to correctly report on achievement of high-level objectives is of key importance to the organisation and the BI team are here to help.
In addition to usage of the portfolio management systems, the team can also assist with interpretation of the data, they can point you in the direction of excel training including advanced excel training and provide adhoc information about specialties and hospitals.
While basic use of the CPMS and LPMS will primarily be organised within your local trust, the BI team at NWL can also provide some training for new team members, or for smaller trusts or projects that cant off the training. We can also help broaden the skills of established team members. You should first check with your R&D department, who will know whether there is an LPMS champion who provides this training.
If you are a new Chief Investigator (CI) or Research Activity Coordinator (RAC) that requires training on the national CPMS you are welcome to contact us (generic email shortly)
The NWL BI team produce monthly performance reporting demonstrating performance at the national, local and partner organisation level, to ensure compliance with the high-level objectives set out by the Department for Health and Social Care.
They also produce operational reports that help with day to day portfolio management on a local and national level, with up to four years available for comparison. Below is a sample of the Monthly reporting available. All staff who need access to these reports should have them. If you think you should have access but don’t yet, please contact us (generic email shortly)
